Contractors registered by the NICEIC are assessed on a regular basis to make sure that they are competent and capable of meeting the relevant technical and safety standards, codes of practice and rules of the schemes they are registered to.
All NICEIC-registered contractors are expected to provide a quality service to their customers and the registration is designed to give the client or consumer peace of mind.
“18th Edition” is a common shorthand term used by industry professionals to refer to the most recent British Standards BS 7671:2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations, IET Wiring Regulations. That’s a bit of a mouthful, so you will often hear it abbreviated to wiring regs, the regs, BS 7671, or the 18th Edition wiring regs.
They are a British standard for the installation of electrical wiring and the 18th Edition is the most recent regulations update and assessment for electricians.
The regulations apply to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations, plus additions and alterations to existing installations and are considered to be one of the most important documents for electricians in the UK.
Approved certifiers are qualified and competent professionals who have the authority to certify that the work they undertake is compliant with building regulations. This covers a broader range than purely electrical installations and includes energy efficiencies, noise reduction, fire hazards and environmental protection.
